Thursday night was dry and cloudy with showers confined to western parts of Scotland and some clear spells across the northeast of Scotland.

By daybreak on Friday a band of light rain has worked its way into Northern Ireland and this spread to northern and central England, Wales and much of Scotland through the morning and afternoon.

By early Friday evening this rain became more persistent and heavy at times across the northwest Highlands.

In contrast to this, southern England enjoyed a quieter day; although it was cloudy it remained dry with some sunny spells. There were some fog patches around the Irish Sea coasts of southwest England and Wales.

Daytime temperatures were well above average in the south of England and in areas clear of the rain and elsewhere they were around average.
