Heavy snow hits Ukraine

12 December 2012 Last updated at 11:13 Help

Kiev was hit by a snow storm leading authorities to call a 'state of emergency caused by a natural disaster'. Twice the expected monthly amount of rain and snow has fallen in the last few days in Ukraine's capital.

This is the same system that brought chaos to Croatia which experienced its worst winter storm since 1955. Large parts of Eastern Europe are enduring low temperatures and heavy snow. BBC Weather's Philip Avery takes a look at the freezing weather setting in across Europe.
