We publish a detailed Inshore Waters forecast for 17 areas around the coast of the UK twice a day, at 0500 and 1700.

16 areas, excluding Shetland, cover up to 12 miles offshore and consist of a 24 hour forecast followed by an outlook for the following 24 hours.

The forecast for Shetland covers up to 60 miles offshore and consists of a 12 hour forecast followed by an outlook for the following 12 hours.

The date and time of issue is given for each forecast.

The 17 area Inshore Waters forecast is broadcast on Radio 4 at approximately 0526 (local time).

A 24 hour forecast with only 9 areas is broadcast after the main shipping forecast at approximately 0053 (local time). This is updated with the issue of strong wind warnings. These are not broadcast on Radio 4 but via local radio and Coastguard stations.
