Trai was born and brought up in Scotland, but felt right at home as soon as she came to the northeast - the weather's not exactly tropical, but she is relishing the countryside, coast, eateries, pubs and cultural centres (not necessarily in that order!).
Broadcasting was almost an accidental career move for Trai. She was a countryside ranger, but had to give it up after a car accident left her with the condition ME for several years. Whilst confined to home, she studied with the Open University, and joined the Met Office when fully recovered, armed with a degree in Environmental Science. She was all set to go into climate change research, but then was asked to try weather presenting for the BBC…she says this request seemed rather scary but couldn't refuse!
Besides weather, Trai's great passion is travel: having lived in the Middle East, hitch-hiked around Central America and crewed a yacht round the Caribbean amongst other adventures….even encounters with erupting volcanoes, rabid bats and sharks hasn't put her off!
Back at home she loves cooking for friends and pottering in the garden - although her new allotment looks set to keep her busy for a long time to come! Trai likes all sports and hopes to learn to surf now that she lives near the coast, although it looks really cold out there in the North Sea!
