Seán was born in Paisley, Scotland and studied his Highers (A-levels) at Castlehead High School. Seán left Scotland in 2000 to head south and study Meteorology at Reading University.
His interest in meteorology began when he was only seven years old, after receiving a BBC weather kit for his birthday. Seán became the weather forecaster for the School newspaper as well as the west central Scottish regional newspaper, The Paisley Daily Express for a few months during the summer of 1996.
After finishing at Reading University Seán began working for the Met Office as a weather observer at the school of Army Training at an airbase called Middle Wallop, which is close to Andover in Hampshire. He worked at the base for over a year before moving into the media/met world by working with the ITV weather team preparing TV weather graphics and maps for various customers such as S4C, UTV (Ulster Television) and, of course, ITV. At ITV he occasionally briefed the presenters and also provided many of the photographs, which you occasionally see on their TV weather broadcasts. Seán gained great experience of working in the media/met world at ITV before moving to the BBC in 2004 as a broadcast assistant.
As a BA at the BBC the job has developed somewhat since first joining, with Radio Broadcasting being the latest addition to the job. You may hear his Scottish accent on some of the local English BBC regions such as Leeds, Berkshire, Oxford and Bristol from time to time. As a broadcast assistant Seán has also undertaken presenter training and has done some television broadcasts for BBC East Midlands and BBC West.
Seán lives in west London and is a keen photographer in his spare time and also loves to travel, not always too far since he hates flying! He has a passion for his home country, Scotland and has regular visits back home, as well as an annual tour of the Highlands each winter to find some snow (his favourite weather)and perhaps a bit of skiing, if the weather permits!
