Paul worked for the Met Office from 1986 until 2002 firstly as a weather observer for several years, at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
Meanwhile he continued studying and trained as a forecaster in the 1990s. After stints at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Leeds Weather Centres he settled at Newcastle in 1996.
He spent 5 years at Newcastle Weather Centre until its closure in 2001, providing forecasts and weather warnings for a wide range of customers, as well regular broadcasts for BBC Radios Cumbria, Cleveland and Newcastle and the odd TV stint on Look North. He is now a full time member of the BBC team based in Newcastle, serving North East England and Cumbria.
Born the oldest of four children in 1967 in Glasgow, he was brought up in nearby Clydebank. Married with two children, Paul lives in the Tyne Valley town of Prudhoe and enjoys going on family camping holidays as well as eating chocolate, listening to all sorts of music, attempting to play the guitar and tinkering about in the garden ... but not all at the same time.
He is mad about cars and, along with a friend he is currently restoring a 1970 VW Beetle, something he would describe as an "ongoing project"!
