Natalie was born in Johannesburg and brought up in Kent. Much of her family originates from the Garden of England so she says it is really nice to be 'back home'!
She graduated in Geography and Mathematics from King Alfred's College in Winchester. After graduating she started working in recruitment and training. Natalie fell into this line of work but had always had a interest in the weather. She finally fulfilled her ambition of working for the Met Office when in September 1999, she gained the position of Broadcast Assistant at the BBC Weather Centre in Television Centre, London.
As a Broadcast Assistant she had the role of supporting the national forecasters. She was responsible for researching worldwide weather stories, producing broadcast-quality graphics and maintaining the Ceefax and Online weather pages.
The eighteen months as a BA gave her great experience on which to build in her new position as Broadcast Meteorologist for the BBC in Tunbridge Wells. Now she provides weather forecasts for Kent and East Sussex on the radio and television. Natalie says "it's such a good feeling to say that my job is my interest and vice versa!" She has an avid interest in the Royal Navy. After deciding not to join full time she couldn't keep away and so joined the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) where she says "the cliché 'the best of both worlds' is so true!" This year she is hoping to gain her Commission in the Reserves.
Her other interests include snowboarding - she is planning to compete for her RNR Unit at next year's Royal Navy Alpine Championships. She also loves classic cars - her pride and joy is her vermilion MG BGT. Natalie is also a keen rugby and football fan and, after playing for her university she would like to find and play for a Women's cricket team in the Southeast.
