More about Craig Rich

Laura was born in Northampton, where she grew up with her twin brother Mark. She became interested in the weather while studying at Duston upper school, thanks to her geography teacher Mr Hannant. She then knew her dream was to become a weather forecaster and called the Met office to find out how to become one.

She studied A level Maths, Physics (to her dismay) and art. Laura then went on to study Physics and Meteorology at Reading University. After graduating in 2003 she joined the Met office.

Laura successfully completed her training course in October 2004. Laura's first posting was to Cardiff weather centre where she gained experience of broadcasting on BBC radio Wales and regional radio.

In 2005 Laura moved to RAF Brize Norton to forecast the weather for crews flying troops and cargo all around the world - from Afghanistan, to Canada and Norway to the Falklands. Briefing crews gave Laura invaluable experience for becoming a weather presenter.

Laura joined the BBC weather centre in September 2007. After extensive training she started broadcasting in November. Laura now broadcasts across a number on channels, including BBC world, Red Button and BBC News Channel.

When she finds time Laura enjoys travelling, painting and regularly goes to concerts where she can see her favourite rock star Jon Bon Jovi.
