Jo was born on the Wirral, north west England where she spent the first 12 years of her life before emigrating to Durban, South Africa with her parents and sister. Jo always loved performing, she was involved in school drama productions from the age of eight and also worked throughout South Africa as a model taking on photographic, television and fashion show assignments.
Her love of the arts led her to study for a humanities degree back in the UK, specialising in art, media and drama. She also took up journalism on the student newspaper and her work as a reporter continued after leaving university, covering stories for local newspapers and local and hospital radio stations. Jo also pursued a career in the arts helping to manage a large art centre housing three galleries and 40 artists who remain friends today. Her work in the press continued too as she worked in PR helping to promote entertainment events throughout Wales including a then little known group known as the Spice Girls!
As the AA traffic and travel voice for BBC Wales Jo kicked off her career as a presenter, moving swiftly on to local radio as a drive-time DJ where she helped launch a new station, Valleys Radio. The bright lights of television beckoned, she moved to London to work on the Weather Channel broadcasting on Sky, CNBC and Talk Radio, also continuing her work on radio for a Capital station Red Dragon FM in Cardiff. She also worked as a journalist for ITN's News Direct and LBC and for GWR stations in the South of England.
Her addiction to travelling was certainly recognised when she joined a television travel channel 2 years ago which broadcasts on satellite and cable channels. The opportunity to talk about holidays all day is heaven! Jo joined the BBC weather team in September 2000 and thoroughly enjoyed getting back into presenting the weather.
Recently she returned to her love of drama again taking classes in acting, singing and dance. She made a short film for Channel 4 which was shown at the International Film Festival 2000 and narrowly missed out on a starring role in a British follow up to the X-Files. Jo enjoys painting, visiting galleries and the theatre. A big sports fan she likes to keep fit at the gym, swimming, playing tennis and doing yoga. In 2001, Jo moved back into full-time acting, leaving the BBC Weather Centre.
