Heather Reid was born in Paisley, Scotland and attended Edinburgh University where she obtained an honours degree in physics. Heather then studied for a Masters degree in Image Processing at Edinburgh's Meteorology department and joined the Met Office in 1993.
After a spell in research she transfered to the forecast division and became BBC Scotland's weather forecaster in 1994.
Heather regularly contributes to science festivals, university events and seminars across the UK. She also works part-time at Glasgow Science Centre developing weather shows and workshops for schools and the public.
She was Chairman of the Institute of Physics in Scotland (1999-2001), is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and has an honorary lectureship in the Physics and Astronomy Dept at Glasgow University. Heather was awarded a Public Awareness of Physics prize for her science communication work from the Institute of Physics in 2001.
When time and weather permits she enjoys climbing in the Scottish mountains, cycling and watching cricket matches. She lives in Glasgow's West End with her English husband.
