What it means for you.
New graphics will give greater clarity to the weather story of the day. We aim to take the viewer on a journey through the weather expected over the next 24 hours and beyond.

Based on your feedback we have created clearer, more involving images of weather conditions without sacrificing the science behind those forecasts.

Looking to the future and embracing new technology
BBC weather is using the latest technology to showing the progression of the weather through a period of time.

Using the most up to date weather data from the Met Office we are now able to use real time rendered graphics to show bands of cloud and rain moving across the country, for example on sunny days we will see the cloud melting away and the sunshine appearing across the weather map.

Backed up by graphics for all weather occasions, we can use animations to show where it will be frosty, the extent of any mist and fog and on windy days we will be able to pick out those areas that will be hit hardest.

Consistency of forecast across all platforms
One major accomplishment with the introduction of our new weather graphics system will be our ability to update the forecast for all services at the touch of a button.

The duty forecaster, based at BBC TV Centre, will discuss forecasts with the Chief Forecaster at the Met Office in Exeter, they also liaise with our team of broadcasters in the Nations and Regions.

Having decided on the most accurate forecasts they can then publish the forecast to all BBC services, such as, the national forecast, the website, BBCi and all BBC television forecasts in the Nations and Regions.

Effect on the UK nations and regions
The new system gives all BBC forecasters new tools to tell the weather story more clearly and engagingly. Around the UK regional forecasters will be able to focus on conditions in their area much more effectively. BBC forecasters in the Nations and Regions can take the viewer on a journey through the weather story of the day much more effectively.

They can get even closer to the weather action of the day. Far more detail will be available as we use cloud, rain and sunshine graphics to track the twists and turns of the weather story as it develops.
