TRIC (Television and Radio Industries Club) awards

BBC Broadcast Meteorologist, Helen Willetts has been named 'Best Weather Presenter' at the 2006 TRIC (Television and Radio Industries Club) awards.

The other competitors for this prestigious award were Carol Kirkwood and Isobel Lang, both popular BBC Weather Presenters. Helen said she was "honoured to be nominated, let alone be selected" for the award and was "absolutely thrilled".

Helen said that "it's been an exciting year for BBC Weather" and she thought the award was a tribute to "all the hard work that has been done by the BBC Weather team" over the last year with the launch of the new BBC Weather graphics.

"It's a real pat on the back for both BBC Weather and the Met Office" said Helen, and described the prestigious award as the "ultimate in the industry".

Helen joined the BBC Weather Centre in 1997, having successfully completed her final forecaster training, and now broadcasts across all main BBC domestic channels, including regular stints on BBC Breakfast.

BBC Breakfast was also successful at the awards and won the 'Best Daytime Programme' award for the third year running.
