Susan's first encounters with weather forecasts were as a young child when silence was commanded in front of the television by her grandparents for the 'Farming' program (an early version of 'Countryfile') weather forecast.
Growing up in rural Herefordshire the weather was, and still remains, a constant topic of conversation.
Susan studied Chemistry and Engineering at Swansea University, a period often featuring plenty of rain! On completing her PhD she worked for a spell for the steel maker Corus (now Tata) before joining the Met Office as a Trainee Broadcast Meteorologist.
Susan has completed both the Met Office IFC (Initial Forecasting Course) and FCC (Meteorology Consolidation Course) and has been broadcasting across BBC platforms since 2001.
Outside of work, her interests include travel, with an on-going challenge to have visited as many countries as her age in years. So far, she remains ever so slightly ahead of this game.
As a throw-back to early rural life she keeps chickens in her London back garden and is a self-proclaimed poultry fancier.
