After studying other planet's atmospheres during his Astrophysics degree, Alex Deakin decided to concentrate on things closer to Earth. He joined the Met Office in 1997 and then the BBC Weather Centre in 2000.
Alex is a proud Yorkshireman, born and bred in the village of North Ferriby, East Yorkshire, where he first found an interest in the clouds as they moved over the Humber Bridge whilst it was being built.
He studied Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 1997. Taking an option in climate change in the geography department ignited his interest in the atmosphere of Earth.
After joining the Met Office and training at Bristol Weather Centre and RAF Linton-on-Ouse, he joined the ITV weather team, creating graphics and writing scripts for the presenters and learning the skills of the presenting trade.
He then joined the BBC Weather presenting team, initially appearing on the BBC News Channel, then as a national presenter on BBC One in 2002.
Alex's other TV highlights include appearing on Celebrity Great British Bake Off in 2012 and Celebrity Mastermind (specialist subject the Stone Roses) in 2010.
Alex lives in southwest London with his wife and daughters. He enjoys cooking and all kinds of sport, regularly playing golf and football.
