Nick Gibson-Lee

Nicholas Damian Gibson-Lee

Nick's the intrepid type: he's travelled overland to Sydney, gone trekking in Iran and braved rope bridges in Northern Pakistan. His little daugher is half english and half chinese and he's a partner in a small financial services company.

Nick Gibson-Lee information

I hope to be more financially secure, to become more successful in my career and that my daughter will continue to grow and develop. I fear that the recession will bite deeply, costs and taxes will rise and there will be increased crime.

What's the best thing about your job?

Managing my own workload, having the trust and respect of my colleagues and senior partners.

What's the worst thing about your job?

Some long hours, a tedious commute.

What makes you angry?

This country at the moment, I hate to see my taxes being wasted, the erosion of values, the disappearance of community. Also laziness and irresponsibility make my blood boil.

What do you love/hate about where you live?

I love my little street where all the neighbours get on but don't intrude in each other's lives. I hate the lack of police, the litter and general disrepair of Front Street and the waste of resources and possibilities by the council.

Describe yourself in three words.

Hard-working, caring, dedicated.

If you were making a time capsule what would you put in it?

A photo of my family, a £1 coin and my journal.

What couldn't you live without?

My family, my car, a nice real ale now and again.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A train driver or long distance truck driver - certainly not an accountant!

What do you think about your family?

That I'm extremely proud of them and fortunate to have them.

What was your first job?

Paper boy but first real job was behind the bar in a bingo hall.

What keeps you awake at night?

Worrying about my daughter's future. Or a good book that I can't put down!

Who would you most enjoy being stuck in a lift with?

John Simpson of the BBC - he has so many amazing tales to tell.

What are your bad habits?

I can be a slob at times, I often take over the bathroom for an hour at a time lying in the bath and reading.

What are your good habits?

I work hard and devote myself 100% to the task in hand.

What's the best thing about you?

My work ethic and sense of responsibility.

What's your proudest achievement?

Getting married...

Nick Gibson-Lee, "trying to be Indiana Jones" on a rope bridge in Northern Pakistan

"Trying to be Indiana Jones"

...travelling the world...

...paying off my mortgage...

...and starting a family - all by the age of 30.

A goal I set myself at 18.

What's your greatest regret?

Not studying harder at school and making the most of my abilities. However, I'm happy so won't dwell on regrets.

Where do you go when you want to think/be alone?

On the golf course - clearing my head and concentrating on the game is very therapeutic.

What are your ambitions?

To become a senior partner within five years, to retire comfortably by 50 and to be able to spend more time with my family in the meantime.

What's your worst memory?

Having my pedal tractor run over by car thieves (missing me by inches) at 5 years old - my first realisation that there are bad people in the world.

What's your happiest memory?

Waking up the day after my wedding in a beach hut in Fiji with my wife next to me, listening to the waves and thinking "I'm going to make every day from now on count."

What single change would improve your life most?

A greater work-life balance.

If you ruled the world what would you change?

I'd create an environment where individuals could make a difference to their lives, where they could grow and develop with the only constraint being their own ability.
