James Donkin's information box

Hope = Our third child is born fit and healthy in October. Fear = Sleep deprivation.

What's the best thing about your job?

Working with students and helping them get to the next stage in their life journey. It's great when I bump into past students years later and hear about the great things they do.

James Donkin and familiy

The holidays – We're very lucky!

What's the worst thing about your job?

Chasing targets. Having to deal with students who deliberately go out of their way to wreck what you're trying to do – luckily this is very rare.

What makes you angry?

Injustice and selfish people.

What do you love/hate about where you live?

Love – The beach. Hate – Sea fret.

Describe yourself in three words.

Super, smashing, great!

What would you put in your time capsule?

Sprouts - and hope I never see them again.

What couldn't you live without?

My family, my guitar, walking boots, my bike and my radio/ipod

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A forest/national park ranger. I just wanted to drive a Land Rover.

What do you think about your family?

They're great. We all get on really well and enjoy each other's company. They're always there when I need them.

What was your first job?

Pulling pints in the Sunderland Catholic Club. Like Phoenix Nights but for real!

What keeps you awake at night?

My children when they were small. People tell me at least you know where they are at that age. I'm dreading waiting for them to come home at night in years to come.

Who would you most enjoy being stuck in a lift with?

My wife of course!

What are your bad habits?

Snacking in the car, biting my lip and indecision.

What are your good habits?

You'll have to ask my wife that one.

What's the best thing about you?

As above.

What's your proudest achievement?

My children.

What's your greatest regret?

Giving up playing rugby too soon and not having guitar lessons when I was young.

Where do you go when you want to think/be alone?

I head for the hills either on foot or on my bike.

What are your ambitions?

To stay happy.

What's your worst memory?

Having to eat sprouts.

What's your happiest memory?

Getting married and watching my children being born.

What single change would improve your life most?

I wish we had guaranteed good weather in the summer. You could make great plans and not have them ruined by the rain.

If you ruled the world what would you change?

I'd re-distribute the world's wealth so that all nations were equal. I'd make it illegal for ambitious people to walk all over others in pursuit of their goals.
