I bought a cashback warranty but I can't get my cash back!
With a cashback warranty, you're supposed to get a full refund if you don't use it. Getting the money back can be difficult. Some companies ask customers to send forms back and forth at particular times. There can be tight deadlines, and information is not always clear. Make sure you read the small print.
If you're having trouble getting your money back, first contact the company responsible. It's better to write a letter of complaint, rather than phoning. Take a look at this X-Guide to writing a letter of complaint.
Make sure you're sending the letter to the right company - cashback warranties are usually underwritten by an insurance company, rather than by the shop which sold you the goods.
From the day you send your letter, the company has eight weeks to sort out your complaint.
If they haven't paid you out after eight weeks, you can take the matter to the Financial Services Ombudsman who has dealt with many of these cases.
If they can't help you, contact Consumer Direct for help and advice.
