International Fly Fishing

For over 13yrs the story for the Welsh Ladies Fly Fishing Team has been "so close but yet so far"

Wales wins Gold

Those 13 barren years without a win was last week a distant memory after a hard match on Grafham water in Northamptonshire. Wales finally won Gold and what a way to win. Over 16 fish ahead of Scotland and 17 fish ahead of match favourites England.

This now puts the Welsh Ladies Fly Fishing Team firmly on the map and proves that they can compete with the best. Marian Davies from Penrhyndeudraeth won top rod with an amazing 7 fish closely followed by team captain Nikki Ryder Clark from Hirwaun with another 7 fish weighing a few ounces less.

Team captain Nikki Ryder-Clark said "She was so proud of the whole team and thanked them for all their hard work on practice and match day. A special thanks must also go to Team manager Moc Morgan, team coach Russell Owen, Fly tyer Jeff Walker Williams and also friends and family for their help and support.

Now the ladies can bask in the glory and will be attending the Welsh Game Fair at Gelli Aur and the Royal Welsh Show on Wednesday where they will be displaying the silverware.

They will be more than happy to talk to any women who are interested in this wonderful sport of flyfishing.

They are now planning next years campaign where again they will be fishing the home 4 nations on the Lake of Mentieth in Scotland and are now actively seeking sponsors to help them defend their British title.
