1923
The first ever radio broadcast from Wales, recalled by Welsh baritone Mostyn Thomas Radio came to Wales on 13 February 1923, from a studio in Duke Street, Cardiff. The call sign for the new station was '5WA calling' , and a third of that first weeks output was music. Among the voices Wales heard that night was Welsh baritone Mostyn Thomas who, throughout his glamorous career and great success in America, remained essentially Welsh. In conversation with Bill Curran in 1972, Thomas recalls as one of his proudest moments the time he sang Dafydd y Garreg Wen in the historic programme which inaugurated broadcasting in Wales.
