The great politician's election speech to hold the parliamentary seat of Caernarfon 'Who is this glittering whirl at the centre of political life?' asked one critic of David Lloyd George (1863 to 1945). Britain's Prime Minister during World War I and the nation's representative at the Peace Conference of Versailles, he was called by some the Welsh wizard, by others the Welsh liar. His womanising caused gossip throughout his life. But those who heard his speeches, from Eisteddfod to Parliament, were dazzled by his oratory.
