Broadcaster Wilfred Goatman recalls the first broadcast from Swansea's radio relay station 5SX On 12 December 1924, up a long rickety staircase on the top floor of Oxford Buildings on Union Street (and moments after the workmen had hurriedly cleared away their tools), Swansea radio relay station 5SX made its first broadcast. Alderman John Lewis, Mayor of Swansea, did the honours and declared the studio, waiting room and offices open. Wilfrid Goatman, who had joined the BBC just four days before, was one of the first people to enter the studio.
