The Singing Spectre

Holly from Swansea tells of a 'friendly ghost' who haunted a psychiatric hospital

"When I worked in the office of a psychiatric hospital, I was walking down one of the many dark and eerie corridors of the hospital when I heard a female voice singing in a strange language. I started to feel very cold and nervous as the voice got louder."

"When I looked in the voice's direction, I saw a very small woman with long ginger hair and big green eyes. She stopped singing, smiled at me and said, "Have you come to punish me again?". I reassured her that I was not there to hurt her in any way, and with that she walked into another room and out of my sight."

"I assumed that she was one of the patients who often said and did strange things. But when I told my boss about her, he smiled and explained that the woman's name was Olga, and that many of the staff had seen her. He told me that Olga was a friendly ghost who had been haunting the hospital for years. She had been a patient with paranoid schizophrenia, who had died in the hospital at a young age after commiting suicide."

"Olga had asked me if I was going to punish her because, due to her illness, she had been paranoid that everyone was about to hurt her in some way. I saw Olga twice after that, but instead of being scared, I just felt sorry for her. I don't know if she is still at the hospital, but if she is, I hope she finds peace one day."

I worked in a nursing home a few years ago i went in one morning to find one of the resadents had died. Later that day me and a male co worker was outside the room and heard someone moving around and what sounded like the lady that had died talking. We opened the door but no one was there that was not the only thing to happen in that place.

You are all so lucky! I have no haunted hospitals near me, well, none I know of. The only thing I used to have was a school. Hendrefadog infants school and one time my girlfriends sister said that when she went inside the school with me and a couple of friends after it had been shut down, she saw my head coming out of a hole in the floorboards at one end of the school. When she went up to see what I was doing there was nothing there, when she turned around again she saw me at the other end of the school. Was not me.

Another time I was in the school with some more friends just looking around. My friends used to go to that school so they were looking for memories, I went to Tylorstown infants, anyway, one of my friends were walking really fast down the corridor so I was shouting to her to wait for me and I followed her all the way to the bottom end of the school and she turned into a small store room that only had 1 door in and out. I followed her in but she vanished and I turned around and you guest it, she was at the other end of the corridor. I was freaked out. Would love to go in again but the school has been knocked down now.

Carl from Isle of Wight
Another hospital haunting is on the Isle of Wight. Where the Ventnor Botanical Gardens now stand there used to be a Victorian T.B. hospital. People who live in the houses across the road often see weird lights over the area at night. The lift in the foyer of the building is always getting stuck between floors and lots of people fall over and hurt themselves outside the entrance of the foyer, although the ground is completely flat. Strange shadows are often seen flitting through the gardens. One night a visitor to the island pulled up on the car park outside the building to look at his map with his engine and car lights switched off. He got out the car to look around when they all switched back on again. He quickly left the car park. It is worth a look if you ever visit the beautiful Isle of Wight. The gardens are lovely on a sunny day but take on an eerie presence during the hours of darkness.

My friends and I went to the Seaview Hospital in Staten Island as a group thing... and we were equiped with flash lights and video cameras. We walked through all the building and partied on the roofs of the creepiest buildings... I was spooked to begin with, as we explored the remaining buildings I was creeped out by the hanging clothes in the basement and the dead dog in the first building.

But what got me more freaked out than anything didn't happen that night... well... it did but it was the video taping that we later watched, in the footage we recorded was strange sounds, if I had heard them that night I would have hauled ass running... It's very loud and it sounds like loud growls, it was creepy.

The next day we returned to film some of the day light footage and one building we did not want to enter that night, we entered during the day it was wall to wall spiders, big black creepy spiders, in the back room is a strange picture drawn on the wall of a huge man with scissors. As we entered the crematorium (we were told) the sounds of the growling get really loud... I did not hear this while recording...and I've heard some stories as I investigated the websites. The strange sounds appear in film, and strange things appear on camera... my camera and I have proof.

Joseph - Staten Island
One day me and my friends went to Seaview Hospital - it was built in the 1950's and there was a fire that killed everyone. It was not scary but then I heard sounds. I saw one ghost then I left ... I will be back with Mike.
