Is this a big cat? Huw, who sent us this picture, thinks so. Here's what he said, "Whilst walking with my partner and her daughter to a secret surf spot on Gower, we were astonished to see what we thought was an unusually coloured fox."

He said that they got to within 50 yards of the creature, which was in the process of eating something, before it became concerned.

"Once it noticed us and turned toward our direction it was obvious to us that this was a large cat with lighter colour whiskers about the same size as a fox although the tail was much longer."

The webteam has cut the picture down in size to try and help the clarity of the image, but you can still see the photograph Huw sent to us originally on the next page which may help you make up your mind.

Unfortunately, it's a little hard to say from a single, distant still image. Without any film to see how the animal moved, it could just as easily be a sheep dog.

That being so...I can't imagine anyone out on a hike saying to themselves: "Oh! There's a sheepdog! I know, I'll take a picture of it and tell people it's a big cat!"

I do believe that the evidence of big cats in the UK is so utterly overwhelming that there can't be any reasonable doubt that they are out there, so there's no reason to believe the photo isn't genuine.
