Extreme Weather & flooding

The February 2004 floods in Llandeilo

While the arguments rage on as to whether or not extremes in weather are due to global warming, there's no escaping the fact that issues like flooding are of some concern in certain communities in South West Wales, such as the Tywi and Teifi valleys, and parts of the Neath and Swansea Valleys.

Local authorities are constantly looking at ways of introducing better flood prevention schemes.

To help inform those at risk the Environment Agency have published indicative flood plain maps online and helpful information for those who find themselves living in a flood risk area.

You can also access the latest severe weather warnings online and BBC Weather have a helpful guide on what to do before, during and after a flood.

The Environment Agency also run a 24-hour advice line -
Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
