Which organisation do you work for?
"I work for Home-Start Wales."

What sort of voluntary work work do you do and where?
"Offer support, encouragement, advice, comfort, guidance, handy hints, confidence building to families in their own homes with a wide variety of problems and situations. "

How did you get started?
" I saw an advertisement in the local surgery. I telephoned to offer my services and I then attended a course. Since then I have been allocated to families suited to my skills and abilities."

How long have you been a volunteer?
" Two years."

Are there any special skills you need to be a volunteer?
"Good listener, non judgemental, friendly, relaxed, understanding, hands-on approach, own experience. Understanding of own limitations."

How many hours a week/month do you give?
"I give two to three hours a week when allocated, as I have limited childcare for my own children."

What are the best, and worst things about being a volunteer?
" Best: meeting new people and families, seeing how your work helps others, seeing people and families grow in stature. Worst: this moment is yet to happen."

How can others get involved?
"Awareness days for volunteers, people and families. Contact the Home-Start office in Llanelli on 01554 770808."
