Famous Visitors To Tenby

Last updated: 20 December 2006

This seaside resort is used to attracting celebrities, though they didn't always come to admire its coastal splendor.

Here's our list of the good, the bad and the infamous who landed within the boundaries of this historic town. And when you've browsed through these names - tell us your nominations.

  • Children's author Beatrix Potter dropped by in 1900. And while she was staying in Croft Terrace, she sketched the garden pond that featured in The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
  • George Eliot
  • Admiral Lord Nelson and his mistress, Lady Hamilton.
  • Cromwell
  • Henry Tudor
  • The artist Turner

Another famous visitor to Tenby was the author Laurie Lee, famous of course, for 'Cider With Rosie'. He spent many summers here and drawings and sketches of beach scenes can be seen in his biography 'The Well Loved Stranger'.
