Swansea Latin American Association was founded in February 2003 by 15 Latin Americans and Britons interested in Latin American culture and languages.
Since then the Association has grown to a membership of 95 and to celebrate its foundation, members organise a Latin American Festival in February each year, in association with the Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea.
Festival 2007
This year's festival will run from Friday 23 to Sunday 25th of February and will feature:
films from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba and Spain,
dance performances of Traditional and Contemporary Latin American dances by A.L.A.S. dance group 'Las Latinas' and Mexican group 'Mexicanas' and others.
There will be
poetry recitals and songs by special guest, artist Sofía Buchuck on the theme of 'The Sacred Symbology of the Andes'
Then there sill be a Latin American concert and party with live musicians: an Argentinean trio led by special guest, Guillermo Rozenthuler and The Rioplatenses playing contemporary Latin American Music from Argentina, Uruguay & Brazil.
Dance the Reggaeton
Not forgetting a dance workshop where you can learn to dance the latest craze: 'Reggaeton' (from Puerto Rico & Cuba) with 'Las Latinas'
In addition, there are going to be talks on 'Latin America & sustainable Development' and 'Walking in the Colombian Countryside & Mountains'. Latin American crafts and food will be available
Finally there will be a Big Raffle with 15 prizes to raise funds for Latin American & African Charities working with street-children.
