This has got to be one of the most impressive interiors in Wales. It is atmospheric and guaranteed to make you take your duties as a representative of the people. Winston Churchill said that "we shape our buildings and then our buildings shape us".

It's worth comparing this interior with the Wales Assembly Government's first meeting place in Crickhowell House Cardiff. No wonder Swansea put in such a strong bid to house the Assembly when it had a building of this quality to offer for governance. Thankfully, Lord Rogers' new Senedd building in Cardiff Bay offers a 21st Century equivalent of this grand space.

Sean Keir explains the significance of the chamber and ante room.
