Swansea: Building on the Past

Turning right from the last view and on an axis with the main entrance, you get to this vestibule or ante hall before reaching the Council Chamber. The coffered ceiling and the arched opening over the columnar screen offer a grand entry. Pevsner likens this space to a Roman baths and the rich patterned travertine floor, stone walls, green and gold coffers give a real sense of occasion.

I was over-awed and perhaps this is why my photographs in here are a little unsteady! I wish they could have been as pin sharp and assured as the architect's detailing.
