Port Eynon

Port Eynon image by Scott Griffiths

Last updated: 29 June 2007

Port Eynon is generally too sheltered to have any surf except in extreme swells.

At the Western end of Port Eynon Bay is Port Eynon itself. The beach here usually never really amounts to much. Prime conditions are very similar to Horton - big swells and the right winds can however produce quality waves when all other spots are maxed out.

The point, although fickle does pick up swell from time time. It offers sucky right handers breaking over shallow rock so is for experienced surfers only. The paddle out and exit can be pretty hair raising so don't attempt it unless you know what you're doing.

the point

The takeoff here is sketchy - very fast and shallow and the paddle out, is not for the faint hearted. You can surf further over where a nice right breaks but it looks pretty shallow and heavy.

The local village has all basic facilites including a campsite, toilets, shop, cafe and pub.
