Broughton

Broughton
This large, sandy bay is accessible at its southern end from the lane that leads from Llangennith via a caravan site.

The strong tides, powerful waves, and shifting sandbanks make it an unpopular and dangerous place for most watersports, although in calmer conditons windsurfing and kite-surfing is possible.

Broughton is generally favoured by longboarders as the rides tend to be pretty slow and mellow here so suit a cruisier style especially as the tide pushes in.

In big South Westerly storms Broughton Bay can have some excellent waves at high tide, with an extremely long left hander breaking off the point into the bay but it's rare!

Am I right in thinking, to get to the beach you need to park in the car park and walk through the caravan site?Does it tend to get quite busy if there`s a wave? Only asking as I fancy a trip down there to try out my new 9'2 and have never surfed there before, Ive heard about the rocks and rips.

It has been amazing here this week and the waves have been stupendous. They are just enough to get a brilliant turn and nice lips on them too!

Huw, Swansea
I surfed here at mid tide on a punchy little swell on a short board and it was great...almost able to get under a few lips, and certainly enough speed for some good turns.

Had some good surfs here. Keep an eye on it as its a regional classic. Lovley long lefts with a southernly wind. Check it out!!!

Totally off topic but does anyone know how big a wave can get before it is a tsunami...curious.

Scored this place 4 to 5 feet clean, the longest lefts in Wales. No crowds just a perfect empty line up.

Had some amazing sessions here! But I've had some scary ones 2! Be careful of big rocks on low to mid tide! People who don't like this wave prob haven't given it a chance, on the right day u can have some of the best longboard waves u'll ever get in Wales! Keep surfing, stay stoked! Cam

The waves here can be peel for ages and produce lovely long walls for carving on Longboard style. Love it.

Gingus, Gower
Surfed here during evening high tides of Easter weekend and the penultimate weekend of April during low tide drifting around to blue pool on the Sunday. Some of the best longboarding waves I have ever seen during my 2 decades as a surfer. This place rocks when it goes off! Just got to be patient!!!

Bob - Belfast
Has to be the best longboarding beach in Wales. Mind blowingly long rides and usually uncrowded.

Geoff
This is my favourite place on Gower to get my longboard out. Nice long rides and slow breaking too. Fantastic!

Grant Davies from Newport
Dude this beach is dangerous! Me and a few mates hit around 5 footers in August and got a batterin! Tried the new 6'6 board out! Definate no no. Get the long boards out for this beach.

James Davies from Killay
On very big swells this wave can get quite powerful and fast for shortboarders, but it can get very weak and slow on small swells. Take care on the long waves cos u will end up in the estuary!
Fri Nov 12 09:42:25 2004

Beth - Gower
Definately a longboarders wave. It is very weak and slow.
Tue Oct 26 16:35:24 2004

Chris Caerphilly
Surfed here last week - what a slow rubbish wave you may survive with a longboard.
Tue Oct 5 15:46:42 2004

Jeff -Gower
This place is not for beginers, due to the strong rip that pushes you off the peak and into the estuary.
Sat Sep 18 13:30:56 2004

G from Mumbles
Grab a long board, and jump in off the point on the left side of the beach. Stop riding before the waves dies, or you'll be in the estuary headed for Llanelli.
