Emma Courtney Roberts tells us about the show:

Begun in 1889, 2005 saw the 102nd Pontardulais Show.
From small beginnings the show has grown into one of the leading one day shows in South Wales, drawing competitors from the throughout England and Wales.

With classes for cattle, sheep, pigs and horses, it also caters for those with green fingers and those with a creative side - you'll find classes in the horticultural marquee. If you've got a yearning for agriculture of the past, there is a display of vintage agricultural machinery. Dog-lovers can view breeds from different countries in the 'open show' which runs all day culminating in 'Best in Show' and 'Best Puppy in Show'.

Likewise, cattle, sheep and horses have a Supreme Champion in each section - a prestigious award to compete for.

In the Welsh Pony and Cob classes, one of the highest form of prize is competed for, topped only by the Gold medal that can be won at the Royal Welsh. The silver medal of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society is something many strive to win and few succeed, with under 20 shows awarding these throughout the country.

For those less animal minded, there are a range of trade stands selling everything from tractors to tooth brushes. Traders hail from near and far, including our regular visitor from Germany who caters for pampered pets with a wide range of products, many of which are not normally available in this country.

I've been to Pontarddulais Show a few times over the last few years showing my Samoyed Dogs, I was lucky enough in 2005 to win Best Puppy in Show there, I'm so pleased this year to be judging the show, it was very kind of the committee to ask me, and I thank them for that.

This is a wonderful show, with something for everyone. Each year for the last 4 years my friends and I have taken 2 car-loads of people, old and young, "horsey" and non "horsey ", and all have had a great time. We have watched it get bigger in these four years, after a happy accident started us going there (stranded nearby with an unreliable car, we decided to try to make the best of a bad day... best move we've ever done) excellent, millions of stars... thank you Pontarddulais Show!!
