Saundersfoot In Bloom was established by Saunderfoot's Chamber of Trade to help promote tourism in the town. In the spring of 1983 the Saundersfoot In Bloom committee was formed, with the aim of promoting the area.
Every year during May we run a poster competition for the local junior schools. The posters are used to advertise the annual Flower Festival and they are displayed around the town.
The Flower Festival is a community event held annually at St. Issell's Church during the last week of June. Many local groups and societies take part and they are free to choose their own theme.
We've got between 70 and 80 tubs of flowers around the village. These are on the pavements and dotted around the streets of the village. We plant these in the first week of June, and we are responsible for maintaining the flowers.
Money given by the Community Council and donations enable us to buy the flowers, the plants and the tubs. We also pay an individual to help us water the plants during the summer months.
During July we hold a garden competition, which is open to anyone living in Saundersfoot. Winners are awarded trophies.
During the autumn we plant bulbs reading for the spring - daffodils are very popular.
We're always on the look out for new members and volunteers to help out with planting. If you are interested in joining please contact Rosemay Hayes on 01834 812880.
