Gwynfor Evans won back the seat for Plaid in October 1974, having lost it by only three votes in the General Election in February of that year.
"It was the first time I'd ever voted, the first time I'd been involved with the process.
I'd been so disappointed when we'd lost by three votes, and in October, we knew we were going to win, and the people were there in Carmarthen just waiting for this victory.
Nott Square was absolutely packed with people singing, a policeman was leading the singing, and it was a wonderful atmosphere.
Then of course the cream on the cake when Gwynfor appeared."
