Starting on a High - QE High School

Head Teacher Tim Day and sixth formers

Last updated: 03 December 2005

September 2005 saw the formation of Queen Elizabeth High School, from the merger of QE Moridinium and QE Cambria.

Sixth-former Sipelele talks to the new Head Tim Day.

You certainly hope that when you are in front of the headmaster it is for good, rather than bad reasons. Despite having no cause for concern, I still felt nervous entering the headmasters' domain. I need not have worried however, as he was very nice, friendly and approachable and answered all of my questions. The interview was very informative and it seems that exciting times are ahead for the new school.

  • Are you enjoying the challenge of being head of the new school?
I'm enjoying it very much. It is a challenge, but there is a lot of support and forgiving which makes my role much easier.

  • What has been the main achievement so far?
The main achievement so far has been settling into teaching and learning and building on the high standards of both schools.

  • What are your planned improvements for the school?
My plans for the school are subdivided, firstly between the pupils' by making sure that they have a clear voice in setting the future direction of the school. Secondly, between the staff by ensuring mutual support for continued development in teaching and learning. It is also important to make sure the community is engaged in the life of the school and that the school is also engaged in the life of the community. And also by concentrating on the buildings by ensuring that the proposed development is realised.

  • When is the new building going to be complete?
The new building is to be completed hopefully by September 2008 so there is a lot of work to be done in the mean time.

  • What advantages do you think have come out of the merger?
The advantages from the merger are a strong school culture, with emphasis on care, support and the highest academic standards and being able to build upon that.

  • Are pleased with the new uniform?
I am pleased with the high uptake of the new uniform and have been complimented on it.

  • Were you pleased with the excellent exam results?
The results were absolutely outstanding, both GCSE, A-levels and AS levels. This is ample evidence of the quality and character of both schools.

    Sipelele

Queen Elizabeth High School is a very special place to me. Tim Day has been an excellent head. He is always willing to listen and take onboard the views of his pupils and staff. I have found him to be a very pleasent and polite Head. I wish him every success in managing the new school in the future as bringing two together must be a challenge.

I have a sister in this school and she has told me how ace the new headteacher is. I am glad that the school has a buzzin headmaster. Im from fleetwood sports college and we have a new headteacher. He is really easy to approach and our school needed a headteacher like him. Good One Mr Day :-)

I would have to agree. Mr Tim Day took no fuss in answering the questions, he plays a huge role in getting these two schools as one. Thank you Mr. Day for being extremely understanding and encoraging. We all thoroughly enjoyed writing these articles, lets hope we may write some more in the near future.
