Corus Concert Band was once known as the British Steel (or S.C.O.W.) Band and has been around for many years, but within the last few years, the threat of the band 'folding' was becoming increasingly worrying as membership numbers dropped.
Due to the enthusiasm of several members of the band, the band continued to play on (even with the few members it had). With the membership numbers so low, the band was unable to compete or take part in any concerts without the aid of other plays from other bands.
Over the past four years or so, the band has grown in membership and strength and there is now a strong nucleus of members attending rehearsals regularly and several members of other bands coming along to support as often as they can.
We play in several concerts a year (often for charities) and organise a number of Christmas carol events annually in aid of the Salvation Army.
We have recently had new music stand banners made to help promote the band locally, as many people do not know that the band is still up and running.
The band enjoys the fact that there is no stress of competing and many members like to come along for this reason (we are a purely stress-free band with the aim to enjoy the music we play).
Anyone who would like to attend a rehearsal on Wednesday evenings 7.30pm - 9pm at the band room in Margam is more than welcome to come along. The atmosphere is friendly and there is always a cup of tea available in the break.
