Through the friendship between two teachers, Pontarddulais and Hourtin had been linked for several years, until eventually Pontarddulais Community Council twinned with Hourtin in France in 1992.
Twinning ceremonies were held in Hourtin and Pontarddulais. The Twinning Association was set up during the same year.
Fund raising was through the Tesco voucher scheme, which was administered by the Chairman Mr. Tom Gwenter. The monies raised enabled the Association to give grants to Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, for their exchange visits to Hourtin and also to Aelwyd yr Urdd for their visit.
Donations have also been made to both primary schools, the comprehensive and the St. John's Ambulance to promote the ideals of twinning.
Recently Pontarddulais Town Council twinned with Cobh in Ireland. This was the result of established links with the cricket club. This took place in 2003 and since then the schools have shown great interest in forging cultural links with each other.
