My Love's Eyes

Eyes

Last updated: 03 December 2005

By Neil Flowers

They burn and flash like furnace fire
I've seen them angry, full of desire.
The sun with all it's blinding might
Is darkened by their glorious light.

Sometimes they smoulder, sparkle too -
Often when I'm close to you.
Perhaps they soften with elation -
or is it my imagination?

They mean a lots of things to me,
Those eyes as changing as the sea.
A mirror, showing more and more -
The way I am compelled to go.

They flame and sparkle, scorch and burn,
I know, I've watched them as they turn-
to a warm and loving inner glow,
that tells me all I want to know.

Lovely! I'm using it to show my students that you could give every empirically provable fact about a person's eyes (1 inch by .5, blue, nearsighted, glaucoma) but if you are looking for the truth of the matter the arts, such as your poem, do a far superior job!

It has a deep imagination and farsighted creativity. It's an open invitation that one should feel a privilege to have....
