When We Were Young: School photos
Last updated: 15 December 2006
Alderman Davies School is the largest and oldest primary school in the borough of Neath Port Talbot. In November 2006 the Parent Teacher Association published a book entitled 'When We Were Young', which is made up of old school photos. Take a look at some of them in this slideshow.
To find out more about the book contact Darren Baker Chair Person of the PTA on 01639 630906 or email darren-baker@btconnect.com.

I was at Alderman Davies I think it was either 1943, '44, or '45 and we were all trooping back to school after the Christmas holidays. Of course the heating had been turned off over the holidays and the 'pipes' had frozen up. When they turned the heating again for the first day, the 'pipes' burst. We had another 3 weeks holiday while all the system was repaired. The kids from the 'Gnoll' just around the corner were hopping mad because we were off and they had to be at school.

My brothers and sisters and I all attended Alderman Davies' School, I was the youngest of five members of the family. The names were Elizabeth, Tommy (Thomas), Elias (Eli) Edith and myself Billy. I am the only survivor of the family at 85 years old, The school was always regarded as the best primary school in the area and is probably still so regarded...
