Bad Hair Day Diary - Monday

Damian George
What's it like to see your first script actually on screen? Local writer Damian George's drama finally broadcast on BBC 2W - here's his first daily diary...

Damian's diaries chart the highs and lows of writing his first TV drama, all the way from script to screen - the four parts were screened over a week on BBC 2W.

I've taken the day off. I've taken tomorrow off too.

I thought I might need to.

You all know what's happened since I was commissioned to write my series,BAD HAIR DAY for BBC Wales and over the last week its all got the better of me. The past five months have been quite a strain! I've never known a period of time so packed with events, ranging from the spectacularly wonderful to the downright awful. Commissions & car accidents; solicitors & stroke victims; illnesses & insecurities.

The first episode goes out tonight at 9.45 on BBC 2W and there's a party being thrown to celebrate the transmission. I'll have to watch it along with a large group of others for the second time in four days. Last Friday saw the internal private viewing for all the production team, directors, cast and all the other people involved in the long process of getting this series on air. It was fascinating to watch all four episodes as part of an audience and their collective reactions were a real insight.

They saw the stories unfold with totally different eyes from mine, interpreted them from their own individual life perspectives and reacted in a myriad of different ways. Another new experience for me and, again, another learning experience.

I'm both excited and nervous about tonight. I'm trying not to worry about the reception these programmes get because I'm sensible enough to know that it's way out of my hands by now.

But what if no-one likes them?
Will I have the worst 'Bad Hair Day' of my life?

    Tomorrow will tell ...

    Damian George

Had to send a comment to say how much I enjoyed watching Bad Hair Day last week - it was excellent Damion! Well done! When are you going to write another series?? It can't be quick enough!

What do you think of Damian's diary? Did you see BAD HAIR DAY on BBC 2W?
