Last updated: 25 April 2008

Catrin Hughes tells us about Côr Merched Lleisiaur Cwm.

This choir was formed in 1996 to compete in the National Eisteddfod in Llandeilo.

Since then, it has grown in number and strength, performing locally and overseas. Tours abroad have taken the choir to Hungary and Spain, where members performed traditional Welsh music.

The choir remains firmly wedded to the Amman Valley, and their varied repertoire reflects traditional Welsh songs, folk songs, ballads, compositions and arrangements by their conductor.

Television appearances include "Noson Lawen", and "Dudley".

In 2005 the choir were awarded the prestigious title of "Ladies Choir of Wales, S4C".

The choir have been trophy winners in Porthcawl Miners' Eisteddfod twice in succession, and National successes include third position at St David's in 2002. Two CD's have been released, "Mae'r rhod yn troi", and "Fel yr hydd", both of which are sold in shops throughout Wales.

The Musical Director is Catrin Hughes, and the accompanists are Bethan Llwyd Evans, and Christopher Davies.
