Former miner Bryn Jones at the South Wales Miners Museum in Afan Argoed Country Park. He worked for some 45 years in a variety of places, like his father and grandfather before him.

This sheave (wheel) was one of four that on the closure of Caerau Colliery, Maesteg, was moved down the valley to St John's Colliery, Maesteg. When that pit was subsequently closed, this sheave was then donated to the museum by the National Coal Board.

Thank you so very much for assembling this information. I appreciate the work you have done to bring about our families' pasts to life. My CALLEN, PROUT and ABSALOM families mined in and around Saundersfoot before moving on to Ebbw Vale/Beaufort in Blaneau-Gwent, then to Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio USA.Again, many thanks!
