History
The inaugural meeting of the Llandeilo and District Gardening Club was held at the Community Centre, Llandeilo on 10 March 1977. It was decided that the Club would arrange a monthly meeting and the first meeting was held on Thursday 7 April 1977. Since October 1991, all meetings have been held in the Civic Hall, Llandeilo at 7.30 pm.
Membership
Membership has grown to around 140. The membership fee of £3 per annum gives access to monthly talks by guest expert speakers. A study day is also held, when members gather in an informal atmosphere for a day of lectures and lunch.
Plant Stall
At the April meeting there is a members' plant stall. Members are encouraged to bring along their surpluses to share with others, in exchange for a small donation towards club funds.
Outings
During the summer months outings are planned, visiting historic houses and well-known gardens. Outings have included Powis Castle, Erddig, Bodnant, Stourhead, Chatsworth and Wisley.
Open Day
This is normally held in the Civic Hall on the second Thursday in July. There are stalls for plants, garden produce, cut flowers and cakes. Apart from the monthly raffle, this is the club's only fundraising activity.
Llandeilo Show
The club has participated in this August Show since 1978 and occupies an area of the Llandeilo and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society's marquee. The Club's Show covers classes in vegetables, plants, cut flowers, floral art and photography.
Library
There is a small library of gardening books which are available for borrowing on a monthly basis, together with copies of the RHS magazine The Garden.
