Three and a half years on from my first comment that I left with Vesty. We were in League Two at the time and now we are in the Coca Coca championship. Fantastic stuff. Swansea till I die! In martinez we trust.

White Rock Stadium is the future of Swansea Football Club. It will attract better players. I will miss the old Vetch Field but it is time to move on, come on you Swans.

I drove past the stadium last week, and (even though I'm a cardiff fan) I was very impressed, to be honest I believe 20,000 is big enough, but there appears to be room around the stadium to expand in the future if required, lets hope you get promotion, the stadium deserves higher level football!! Good luck!

It will be sad to say goodbye to the Vetch at the end of the season as I have so many memories of the past. I have visited the new stadium during the building and development and have to say it looks fantastic and will make us a club that is going forwards on and off the field. I will miss the old North bank and I only hope the singing and chanting will follow with us to the new stadium

Let's hope we get someone who will back the club as well as bringing up our own talent
that side up the road could not buy their way to top . Let's get out of this division this year then come on you fans get down to the new ground. Bring someone new to the Swans.

What a wonderful stadium but with a capacity of only 20000 I guess we are not aiming for the premier division. Still best of luck to the Swans maybe we can have another 1964 cup run this year.

I was one of those many supporters who stood in the pouring rain at Villa park when the Swans lost to Preston in the semi-final. One of the lowest ebbs for any fan. Now ,this morning, having found this web site I am elated at seeing the new stadium rise , as I am sure the team will. Regaining its glory and for me erasing that sad day 43 years ago.
The White Rock is a perfect name, with several meanings. Not the least of which it will honour our history and all those who suffered at this industrial site.
Let this be the rock upon which the team will build its future .Up the SWANS.

The new stadium will be a great boost to the whole of Swansea, and the club in particular. Promotion is a must this year to go with it's opening. Hope that they do not hike up the admission charges to stupid levels though, and why didn't they build a small station/platform there???? Would have made so much sense seeing as the area is going to be very hectic on a match day with all those retail outlets.

I was born in Ystradgynlais and on leaveing school(late 40s) I went to a coal-mine to work in Ystalafera known as "Next week". When I asked why is it called Next week, I was told if you asked the owners for something, you were told "Next Week". So I think the new stadium should be called "Next Year" because that is what Swansea CC were saying for years.

As Swansea is named after a Viking chief (Swain) and has nothing to do with Swans, the team should be called the Vikings or the Raiders, certainly not the Swans.

It'll be sad to leave the Vetch as it has been part of my life for the last 35 years but I think it's time to say our farwells to the old girl, she looks tired and has seen far better days... onwards and upwards the new stadium looks magnificient, I just hope we can create the same sort of atmosphere there.
Farewell Old Girl, gone but never forgotten
welcome to a new era.

Should have been 25,000 the way things are going we will fill it in a year or 2. Let alone if some one comes in with a bit of money and we ever get close to prem., we can dream any way. I was one of the few hundred fans locked out on Tuesday. Long term is 20,000 going to be enough?

I've only just turned from a scoucer to a jack. When we have White Rock Stadium I think it would hold the biggest capacity in League 2, League 1 and would be one of the biggest in the championship.
Come on you Swans, league 1 next year.

Loads of positives and just two negatives, the name should be White Rock and the capacity should have been 25,000

The design and layout of the stadium allows the supporters to be quite near to the pitch. With a full-house behind the Swans the atmosphere will be very intimidating to away teams, it's got to be a massive advantage to us. A cauldren of Welsh passion. A long overdue and deserved project. Let's make sure we keep the ground filled to allow the club to prosper and gain success on the field.

The stadium looks absolutely fantastic, it will hopefully lift the players and supporters alike and give Swansea as a whole a sight to be proud of... think they should have called it the New Vetch Field though... but no worries!!!

Lets hope that the new stadium will be given a fitting name as to it's role in life and not a sponsors name etc. In Cardiff we have the Millennium stadium and there must be thousands of millennium named this and that structures up and down the uk with that bland and over worked title. So come on you people with the say so, lets have a grand and Welsh orientated name for the new stadium.

I think it's a great thing that could see us return to the glory days. But we will all have to carry that special Vetch atmosphere to the new ground. Let's all get behind them as well as the north bank faithful. What a place it will be then!

We all feel the Vetch field has definitely seen better days, and although we have some great memories of matches played at the Vetch
it is long overdue that a more modern venue would be appreciated not only by the fans but also the team who also deserve a Stadium they can look forward to playing at. Just ask Malcolm Struel.

I think it is great that the Swans are moving to a new home at last. Will they reach the heights of entertainment that I had with Parry; Feeny, Keane; Paul, Weston, Burns; Payne, Ivor Allchurch, Richards, Lucas and Len Allchurch at the Vetch?
All white kit then.

I have been living away from Swansea for around twenty years now and only recently saw the stadium. It's an absolute cracker. Believe me when I say that people from all over the country admire the Swans and all to a man have said we deserve to play in a higher league. Hopefully this stadium will inspire the lads to acheive. It will sure as hell impress the away support that's for sure!

(RE: les's comments about football/rugby on one pitch.)
many clubs do it and it works for them, it is extra revenue for the stadium to have the rugby games there. They may even use the same sort of system as the millenium stadium and change the pitch after each rugby/football game for the other to use.

I was back in Swansea in August having only seen the stadium on the web sites. It was a sight to behold and is developing nicely. It will be sad to leave the Vetch after all the memories, both good and bad, that it gave me. My abiding memory will be my first game watching from the old Double Decker when the Swans under Tosh came back from 4-1 down to draw 4 all against Rotherham on a cold Tuesday night in the old Division 3. Tosh scored the equaliser with a few minutes to go, magic!!!!

The stadium looks great and it will be a tearful last game at the Vetch with all the incredible memories there. I've got my name down for the centre-spot.
I just hope we get a proper name for the stadium instead of some meaningless corporate-sponsored advert. Some things shouldn't be sold. Ah, well, at least I'll be able to walk to games and have a pint.

Remember you can play rubgy on a football pitch but you can't play football on a rugby pitch.
Once the Ospreys use the new stadium the pitch will cut up, you will also have the problems of the pitch marking so a great looking stadium on the outside but playing rugby and football in the same stadium simply won't work.

Took a look when I was home in July and was impressed with what I saw. I hope that we will have a side fitting enough to play in such a fine stadium, as a North banker who remembers the Toshack era it will be good to hear twenty thousand jacks roaring our team on again, onwards and upwards for the Mighty Swans!!!

I love the new stadium. It's about time that Swansea had something that we can all be proud of. Let's just hope that the the powers that be make the most of it and attract some top entertainment, especially for those who aren't into their sport. Large scale concerts and conferences will bring in a lot of revenue to the city, which is just what Swansea's been calling out for. White Rock On!

It's been great watching the stadium being built, the thing is flying up! I've recently come back from holidays and the first thing I did when I got back was take a slight diversion instead of going home - I had to have a look at the stadium just to see the developments. Can't wait until next season!!!

The stadium is a disaster. The guy from Bristol said it will be 2 miles closer, yet but with the traffic problems it has caused it will probably take you 20 minutes more to get there. You try working in the Enterprise zone by the stadium and you will see how thankful you are.
Thu Jul 22 09:17:54 2004

I don't get down to Swansea so much these days, so it was a shock to see how well the new stadium was coming along.I will miss the Vetch as i have fond memories of the old ground. I just hope that the local pubs around the Vetch don't suffer too much from the reduced trade.By the way where are we going to park?
Mon Jul 19 13:13:37 2004

The white rock stadium fills me with excitement every time I pass it on my way to work. The Vetch field will always be a special ground to remember, but the Swans need to move on if they are to be successful and move up the leagues.

It looks lovely as it is going up! But how exactly are they going to accommodate all the parking that will be needed? As a Plasmarl resisdent, parking is difficult enough as it is. Also, with all the roadworks I have to leave 25 mins early for my job which is literally 5 mins away.
On a match day will it be worth me even going home the night before! Has anyone actually thought about us?
Thu Jul 1 11:25:12 2004

Living right by the stadium is going to be fantastic, and so is watching the construction progess daily. This stadium can only be good for the Swans and Swansea as a city. Lets not forget we will probably get more concerts here now as well (wonder if S Club Juniors are touring).

And about time too! Yes, I share all those views about the glory (and not so good) days at the Vetch, but for a modern team and a city with ambition, the White Rock is exactly what's needed. Come on you whites!

Allthough leaving the vetch will be a sad day for many, it is the right thing to do.This team neeeds to play in a stadium that will accomodate children and families as they are the future of this club.I wish the swans all the very best in their new home and know that the faithfull army of swans fans will get right behind them.
Fri Jun 4 00:17:43 2004

Judging by the stadium and it's location I'm sure neutral soccer and rugby supporters will flock to the ground. This should in turn boost the turnstile figures for both the Swans and the Ospreys.
PS. Last time I saw the Swans was back in the 80's when they were in the 'old' Division 1, it would be nice to have them back up the leagues and competing with the likes of Cardiff, etc again :)
Wed Jun 2 22:14:00 2004
Andrew Evans from Milan
The new White Rock stadium is the most exciting development to have taken place in Swansea for many a year. Having been a regular visitor at Rome's Stadio Olimpico and Milan's Giuseppe Meazza over the last seven years, I honestly feel that watching football in modern stadia that boast excellent facilities makes for a more pleasurable experience, no matter at which level, Serie A or Division 3 of the Nationwide League, the game is being played at. To this end, I am relieved that I will no longer be showered with rust particles when the ball strikes the roof of the new stadium. Ask any of the regulars in the Centre stand at the Vetch and I'm sure they'll agree!
Finally, let's hope that the new stadium can be the catalyst for a renaissance in the fortunes of Swansea City FC; Premiership in five years' time? So come on all you Man U "supporters", swap red and white for black and white and get behind your local, welsh team at the White Rock Stadium. Dewch ymlaen y crysau gwynion.
Tue Jun 1 21:05:07 2004
Jack living in Bolton
I moved to Bolton 6 years ago and made many friends in Bolton. They were not happy when they moved from Burden Park to the Reebok and would move back 2 morrow - so why didn't Swansea just spend the money on doing the Vetch up? At least the right thing to do is keep the name - The Vetch field as I am a Jack and always keep the Swans and the Vetch field in my heart. The new stands should be named after the Swansea greats. Cardiff we are the the team of Wales.
Sun May 30 10:49:23 2004
Jonny from Shrewsbury
Finally the Ospreys will have a cracking stadium, one to really compete with other European rugby clubs. And it can only be beneficial to the Swans who, I can see shooting up the leauges. It should prove brilliant for Swansea and the whole of South-West Wales.
Fri May 28 20:55:36 2004
Neil in Hull
I hope the new stadium is as successful for Swansea as the KC Stadium has been for my club: Hull City.
The move to the new stadium has benfitted not just the club, but the whole city as well. There is now greater civic pride in the city, knowing that we have one of the best stadiums in the whole of the UK.
I can only see good things ahead for Swansea City and the people of Swansea. New stadiums bring in crowds, which will attract better players and have a spin off in a number of other areas.
We had a number of fans who didn't want to move from the old ground, but look forward, not back. Not many Hull City fans would want to return to the old ground now. I bet it's the same with you guys once the new stadium is up and running.
Wed May 26 21:18:42 2004
Nick from Swansea
With a bit of luck the new ground will get sponsership and money into the club which will help us progress up the leagues, and all our Swansea born Man Utd and Arsenal glory hunters will start supporting us.

David Humphreys from Caerphilly
I have been supporting the Swans for more than 40 years, and will definitely miss the famous Vetch Field. Having said that, we must move on and the building of a new stadium is, hopefully, the beginning of a new and successful era for Swansea City Football Club.

There are many good memory's from the many years at the Vetch. But the stadium is very dated now and we must move on to more modern surroundings and build for a new hopefully successful future.

i think that the white rock stadium is appearing pretty nice and i think that the swans will dominate home games when it is finshed. i can't wait to see Trundle and Connor smash a couple in the net when the new stadium is ready, a new start for the swans and kenny jacket but it will be sad to leave the vetch feild.
Wed May 5 13:20:20 2004

We have had some memorable moments at the Vetch clinching several promotions and we will miss dearly. On the otherhand we will look forward to the prospect of getting Swansea City football back into the bigtime - the fans will do their part let`s hope the players can. Come on the Jacks.
Sat Apr 24 12:31:17 2004
Roger Porch - Bristol
For those of us who travel from Bristol the new ground will be two miles closer!! Modern stadiums do not have the same chacteristics as older grounds as I remember from my first visits to the Vetch in 1973 the old west stand and the east terrace constructed from old railway sleepers. Hopfully we can enjoy Second Division football at White Rock with enough fans to generate a decent atmosphere.

As a regular on the North Bank ,I'll be sad to leave the Vetch, but at the same time excited about going to Whiterock.
Living near is great,as you get to see the changes and progress daily, and it's looking great. Let's hope we're in Division Two and not the Conference this time next year.

I think the stadium is a great idea but it is a bit further for me to travel to see the Swans play but it will hold more than the Vetch and there will be more visiting supporters allowed down as well. This will be a great boost for Swansea City AFC, and hope fully the Swans will play better as well.
