WAFERS are the Welsh Area Fire Engine Restoration Society, and their Museum is located in Skewen, Neath. In the musuem you'll find a collection of fire engines and fire-related equipment.
We start our tour with The Shan Mason Steamer. Dating from c.1890, this horse-drawn steamer hails from from Tenbury.

  • BBC News November 2005
After seeing this slideshow of the WAFERS' work, the Royal Australian Mint in Perth has decided to put one of these fire engines in a series of commemorative coins called 'Fire Engines of the World'.

I enjoyed your photo gallery, especially the 'Green Goddess', as I served in the A.F.S until its disbandment. Well done for the marvellous preservation of all your appliances.

Enjoyed the photos, brought back memories of living in Skewen and Neath. As a firefighter in New York I think my interest began seeing these old engines years ago. Keep up the good work!

I am very fond of Fire engines, and despite great heritage in my country, there isn't a single club or association regarding Fire engines.I am an ex-fireman, and one day I will visit this museum, for sure.

A mate and I own a Dennis F3 (Chassis 3228)that was originally supplied to the West Australian Fire Brigade. We are giving it a full restoration to bring it back to "as new" condition and are trying to locate other Dennis F3 owners. I like the work you have displayed on this site and wish you well in your endeavours.

Loved your pictures. Here in the U.S. - I own an old 'Mack' apparatus. I'ld love to get an old British piece, but since shipping would kill me - seeing this stuff on the internet is the next best thing.

Nice selection of pictures. I have a vintage appliance myself an Austin k2, I think these machines should be preserved for our children and others to enjoy.

I have been fascinated by fire engines since a small child (I am almost in my sixth decade!!) Over the last few years I have been collecting diecast models of fire engines so the 'bug' is still strong! I have just tracked down a copy of 'Flames across the Tawe' by Keith Mills which is a history of Swansea City Fire Brigade...should be a hot read!!!!
