Reconstructing St. Teilo's Church
Last updated: 09 August 2006
The re-erection of St. Teilo's Church from Llandeilo Tal-y-Bont is one of St. Fagan's National History Museum's most ambitious projects to date. This is the only example in Britain of a medieval church that has been moved to a museum. During the dismantling process several layers of medieval wall paintings were discovered under the limewash. Consequently the Church is being reconstructed as it would have looked circa 1520 - prior to the Reformation.

Ann Davies [nee Williams] from Yeovil
As the eldest daughter of Rev Canon Cynwydd Williams the last priest to take services in the church. It was particularly moving for me to take part in Saturday's service for the people of Pontarddulais and to read one of the lessons. St Fagans have chosen a wonderful site on which to rebuild the church and have made it look as though it has been there for ever.

I cried when I saw the restoration. How bold and brave of the project team to acknowlege Wales' Catholic heritage. My thanks to them.

I have fond memories of passing that church back in the 70's, when we used to go onto the M4 for our family holidays. I often wandered what had happened to the church. Well done Wales, a really good use of local resources and keeping our Welsh heritage alive.

Went to St Fagans last summer to see the old church, brilliant project well done Wales. Cant wait to see it finished. Have really fond memories of walks along the marsh when I was a young girl having picnics and playing hide and seek in the ruins.
