Mark says: "For the past year I've been studying the insect life resident within an industrial landscape. All insects were found on a patch of waste ground in the Fforestfach area. I hope that my photographs will help to give people a greater respect and understanding about the sheer volume of diverse insect life that is available. All you need to do is slow down your pace and look."

You can see some of Mark's other photographs in his Gower Gallery, and on his photography website.

Lovely images. I too love taking wildlife images and aspecially insects, so your images are of great interest. What camera gear do you use? This year I have found a great place for Grass Snakes so have been getting some great images.

Ricky, your beetle sounds like a cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha). Do an internet search and look at the pictures - you may get a match!

That sounda a fascinating beast, Mark! I've no idea what it is, but the entomological recorder at your local wildlife trust might know, or know who to refer you to. When you find out, pleasde let us know!

Could it have been a mayfly? I was sitting in my office with the window open last April/May when these huge beetles a bit like you describe flew in I didn`t stay there long enough to study them ..... shriek .... my husband got them out. He said it was the light and warmth that attracted them, needless to say the window remained firmly closed for a few days afterwards.

While camping with a few friends near 3 cliff's bay, in Gower, sat around the fire chatting, having a drink, a friend of mine felt somthing touch his arm, it must have been quite forceful as it was a chilly night, and he had a few layers on.

Anyhow, I wasn't aware of this until I heard him shout my name and as I turned around, he asked me (knowing ive quite a bit of knowlegde in local insect life and have been interested since a child) in absolute asonishment, "What the hell is this?" It was a HUGE insect, a beetle. It rested on his arm for a few seconds, but not long enough to get a picture, before it opened up its huge wing casings and took off.

I've looked through what books I have, and through the internet, but have yet been unable to identify it. It was around 2 1/2 inches long, yellow and brown patterned body with, the most outstanding feature, long antenae with red feathery tips. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Beautiful photos. There is so much fascinating wildlife right under our noses if only we take the time to look. It also shows there is no such thing as "waste" ground - every last patch is home to a rich diversity of creatures - in fact some "brownfield" sites have more wildlife than the open countryside.

Beautiful just beautifull. Amazing level of detail. It just proves that there must be a creator. Who else could be responsible for such beauty. Mark's Photographs just go to show that we all need to slow down and gaze at the multitude that surrounds us all in our daily lives.
