My grandmother was a Williams and her ancesters came from Llandovery...her great grandfather John Williams b. before 1791, her grandfather William Williams 1806, her father was Rees Williams 1839, Celia Williams 1873...I was wondering if there is biography of William Williams hymn writer of 'Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah'...

In the late 1940's I had the privilege of being a boarder in Llandovery College. Living in London I was sent there as a boy of eleven because my father thought I would play for Wales. My parents put me on a train in Paddington with the two other boys who had the same destination. The Fishguard express would carry us to Llanelli. At each stop others would join us, one in Reading, three in Swindon and as we crossed the border the trickle became a flood.
By the time we arrived in Llanelli there was quite a crowd ranging in age from eleven to eighteen. In Llanelli we had to change onto the smaller train that was to take us to our destination. This little puffer stopped in every station and at each more boys climbed aboard. It was our last hour of freedom and each compartment was full with all the happenings of the holidays and what the coming term would hold.
Eventually Llandovery, and as the train pulled into the station out we poured ready for another term. Looking back they were magic days and a great privilege. I should end with an apology to my father. I never wore the red jersey. Sorry dad.

I was born in Llandovery Cottage Hospital in 1965 and I still have family in Llandovery - I have not been back for a few years but I will always say it is home.

Lived in Llandovery until I was 21 then moved to north east england, but I still class it as home. Not a lot to do there but we had a great time. Hope to visit 2007 to see old haunts

It is really nice to see pictures of Llandovery as this is where I spent my childhood. I loved our farm (Comminice I think it is spelt) which was based in the valley. Such a beautiful place and hope to visit again as havent been back since the 90's.

Lovely to see Llandovery where I spent my first 4 years as a Carmelite nun at Llangarmel until the monastery closed in 1980. A beautiful location.

The old round house would be a good addition as well as some of the hump back bridges. I haven't been back since 1975 but plan on visiting in 2007.

My GG Grandfather, Jenkin Davis was married at Llandovery Dec. 1840. It is a plesure to view what he may have looked upon as a young man of 20. He was a casuality of the US Civil War June 9, 1863.
Some day I would like to get a small container of his native soil to spread on his grave at Andersonville, GA.

Lovely to see Llandovery again. I haven't been back since 1986, and your photos remind me of how lovely the town is.

I think that the Black Ox should be in it with a photo of Dai and Dunstan his carpenter mate smoking their capstan full strength. Those were the days.

I lived at Baily Glas Cottage with the
Southgates for 3 years, I am now 73 and
the memories of the surrounding beauty
are as vivid to me as when I was a child.
I was sad when I saw how changed the
Towy River was due to the Llyn Brianne
dam.

The Black Ox should be included in your picture gallery. It looked a lot better when it was a pub (my favorite) and an undertakers (Dai Jones had his shop in the back).

You should show Ysgol Pantycelyn. And the skate park. They were the best parts of the town.

The (Old) Vicarage and the Bank of the Black Ox (as was) would be of historical interest. Better than the roof tops of Llandovery anyway.

You've got a good range of photos of Llandovery here, but what about the rugby ground of The Drovers?
