Ysgol Emlyn Sailing Expedition

During July 2005 a group of Year 11 pupils from Ysgol Emlyn undertook their Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition. They sailed from Burry Port harbour to Fecamp in Normandy on a gaff ketch called the 'Keewaydin'. They sailed continuously for over 64 hours and worked on a 3-hour watch rota.

Hi, I was also one of those students who took part in the expedition and I found it really good (except the sea sickness). I would most probably go again if we could. This was an experience I will not forget. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.

For the past 2 years, I have worked with this group of young people from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn - a group who followed a Vocational Curriculum Programme at school. The group decided on a Tall Ship expedition to complete their Silver D of E Award, and it was such an amazing experience to be part of it.

The group worked extremely hard prior to the expedition, including raising money to help fund the voyage. The voyage itself took a tiring 60+ hours of non-stop sailing in challenging conditions. They were always motivated and enthusiastic, smiling through the sea-sickness and the 3am Deck-Watch!

Well done to you all - I am so proud of what you achieved...It's an experience that we will remember for years to come! PS - the DVD of the voyage is almost complete!!!

Hi,I'm of those students who took part in the expedition and I really enjoyed myself. It took three days to sail to Fe Camp. I felt sea sick but wasn't actually sea sick. I wish I could do it all again because it was the most I've ever had so far this year. Myself,Jason Cadden, Sarah Evans, Clint White and Angharad Lewis took part in the EuroSail 2005. All of us did the Keewaydin for our Silver Duke Of Edinburgh Award.
