The playground in the town won £50,000 in the People's Millions last night! So, by next spring, there will be a fantastic new community facility in the centre of town, with new play equipment for all ages, and flower beds and picnic tables.

Congratulations to Fleur de Paris Gift and Flower Shop, this year's winners of the 'Best Window'! Lets hope Newcastle Emlyn can begin to get more publicity. It's such a lovely town and compared to other towns, it's not publicised enough....We need more [car parking] spaces and good signage in the town so newcomers will not drive through the town due to no places to park.

Fed up mums - make our park safe!
The only recreational playground in Newcastle Emlyn, is an embarrassment to our lovely town and as mothers of small children we are concerned about its dilapidated state. While we believe the facility is reliant on charitable donation...it is obviously clear that something needs to be done! This park is filthy and dangerous and needs to be improved, as this is the only play area for our town’s children.
Almost all of its equipment is damaged, uninviting and so old that its safety in particular concerns us. In particular the slide, does this conform to BS or EN safety regulations? Most parks throughout the UK pulled down these dangerous contraptions down back in the 1980’s. The RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) state that 40,000 children a year within the UK are injured in playgrounds. Will it take a child being seriously injured before something is done? As a trustee of a park in this condition, I would be terrified a child may get injured and I would be sued!
Unfortunately, in its current state, the playground detracts from Newcastle Emlyn’s beauty and otherwise high standards of facilities and good state of repair. Why should we have to drive outside of our lovely town to take our children to a decent park in neighbouring villages and towns? Does anyone else feel how we do?

Living my childhood in Emlyn probably blinded me from how good the town actually is. As Carwyn says below...the local characters really make the town, with its beauty and serentity unrivalled in the whole of the UK! Good education (primary and secondary) makes for an excellent community spirit and business development, without distrupting the 'old school' feel of the town. I can quite safely say that I would not be who I am today if I didn't hail from the best market town in Wales.
Please don't let the youth gangs and weekend trouble spoil the future of the town. Ps. Here's a small hello and thank you to the faces that gave me the best three years of my life just before leaving Emlyn....you know who you are! Peace & Love.

Newcastle Emlyn is a hidden gem! Since I moved a few years ago, word is getting around about the town and lots of new people seem to be moving in especially as the schools here are very good.
Also some of the high street shops have changed in the last few months which has given the place a nice facelift. I even prefer it to shopping in Carmarthen as its so friendly here - some people take time to have a chat just like it used to be years ago.
Lots of places to get good food and coffee, lots of estate agents and banks. Ededa J is a great shop for clothes for those special occasions plus another one thats very inspiring that has just opened called 'Fleur de Paris' - Floral Designers and Gifts. They are lovely girls, always friendly and selling some unusual beautiful things and incredible flower designs. The florist comes from London and has had many celebrity clients along with the Royal Family.
They have one of the best window displays in town. The only downside to Emlyn lately has been a few problems on a Friday/Saturday night with a few rowdy people intent on damaging and littering the street but overall its a great area to live in with everything you could possibly need on your doorstep.

We love NCE. Our favourite things about this wonderful place are - Val's Little Art School, Saturdays in the Catholic Church Hall, she is both an inspiration and a great teacher. Mum(Sarah) says the cappuccino in Snapdragons is the best and cheapest in town, with a view of the river and free parking - we love Linda and Ken too!!! We like the swimming club too, friendly atmosphere and training twice a week. Thankyou NCE, we love you!!!

We have been house-hunting in the Newcastle Emlyn/Cardigan area for the past few months and have visited the homes of many really, really nice people. And everybody has told us the same thing - that Emlyn is a brilliant little town. And when we explored it a bit for ourselves, we agreed: the shops are interesting, the people look happy, the park with its castle ruins and riverside walks is a wonderful place to walk the dog, there's a theatre, historic buildings. And, as well as this BBC web site, it has a great little web site of its own with links to interesting articles on issues like international peace and justice and the environment.
And another thing - judging from this web site and the on-line Ofsted report, the children and young people in this town really like their schools and the friends and the teachers that they have there. Cool! So, all in all, we think that Newcastle Emlyn really rocks!

I loved the wonderful variety of fresh foods my parents and I found on our 2000 visit to NCE. There is nowhere in our part of America where we can find a bakery on one side of the street, and a fishmonger directly across the way. Our grocery shopping is either in huge supermarkets or not at all.

The best thing about Emlyn is the variety (and distance) of the boozers...I reckon the family & I are in Emlyn between 6-8 times per year visiting relatives.Still I don't think we've been into all of the pubs...People are really warm & welcoming (even to an Englishman....so far). We've made many friends over the last 6 years and it's always good to catch up over a pint....or 8 !!!!!

Carol Adkinson (nee Ward) now in Suffolk,
I also love Newcastle Emlyn! I love the shop Edida J which caters for larger ladies who do not want to look as if they dress in a marquee - so we go there every time we come back to Wales! I also love the walk round and up to the Castle - what a wonderful spot, with the river on the three sides - they certainly knew where to park the castles in those days!
Roll on the next trip to Rhoslannog!

The best thing about living in Newcastle Emlyn for us is that there is plenty to do for all the family. There is an excellent primary school (Ysgol-y-Ddwylan) where all four of the children have received, and are still receiving, an excellent education. There is a leisure centre, swimming pool, tennis courts + lots more. There is a beautiful walk around the castle and river Teifi. I can't imagine living anywhere else!!

Though I no longer live in Newcastle Emlyn it's still very much home. The best thing about the town is by far the people that live there. There are fantastic local characters and there's always a heartfelt welcome on the streets, whether it's a busy market day or a bustling Saturday night out. The people there are great, though sadly, whenever I go back, I realise that the familiar faces are in decline and it's then that it hits home that I no longer contribute to this fantastic 'community' spirit.
Ysgol Adpar - which is now demolished stood where Emlyn Surgery stands today - was the best school in the world. Mrs. Smith was my favourite teacher, the food was ace and we even had a huge oak tree in the playground which you couldn't even put your arms around, no matter how far you stretched! It was the best primary school days anyone could ask for. It was a great shame that the school closed and had to be relocated to the other side of town. The only bonus we got from moving was being the first children to walk the footbridge over the Teifi!
